New York flamenco workshops are taught by Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana Company Members. Maya de Silva is our main teacher, and has been leading these workshops since 2005. Ms. de Silva teaches dance technique and choreography with a strong focus on musicality, creativity and cultural background of flamenco. Workshops are accompanied by a guitarist.

Basic Information about our New York Workshops

• Three levels: Basic Beginner, Advanced Beginner and Intermediate
  (Depending on registration, Advanced Beginner and Intermediate are occasionally combined into one class)
• Workshops begin every 6 weeks
• Meet one night a week for 1 1/2 hours, usually on Mondays or Thursdays
• Held at Roy Arias Flamenco Studios on West 37th Street
• Cost: $135 for a six-session workshop
• Payment method: Secure online transaction via Paypal
• Pre-Registration and Pre-payment are required. Please note that because of popularity we usually have a large waiting list for the workshops. You must pre-pay the entire workshop. We cannot refund for missed classes, though we are glad to offer make-up sessions

Workshop Descriptions

Basic Beginner (Level 1)

• The very basics for new students with no prior experience.
• This course is for people who have never taken flamenco or other dance classes before.
• Meets one evening a week.

Advanced Beginner (Level 2)

• This course is for people who are repeating our workshops for the second or third time, but who are not yet in the higher level.
• If you are not sure which level you belong in, ask us.
• Meets one evening a week.

Intermediate (Level 3a & 3b)

• This course is for people who have taken our workshops at least 3 or 4 times.
• Workshop moves at a fast pace. If you are not sure which level you belong in, ask us.
• Usually meets TWO evenings a week (3a meets Mondays and 3b meets Thursdays. There is no difference in the difficulty of the two days).
• We encourage students to register for both days for added intensity, though it is not required.
