In 1996, Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana was invited to North Carolina to help reach the local Spanish-speaking community and to build bridges between traditional communities and the newer Hispanic population

As the demand for quality Spanish dance programs grew, the Company made North Carolina a second home base. We now work with numerous arts, community, and educational agencies to present Project Olé Arts Education programs, theater productions, community performances, and dance classes and stops on our annual tours.

Carlota Santana is a faculty member of Duke University, teaching The Art and Cultural History of Flamenco. Ms. Santana's unique approach to teaching flamenco reaches beyond the scope of the dance department, and her course has been integrated into the curriculum as an interdisciplinary Liberal Arts course. It is a full-credit course—part dance technique and part lecture—open to all students, not just dancers. Students' majors range from philosophy to sociology, as well as dance and Spanish.
